VF-Engineering designed and developed a turn-key R32 turbocharger kit taking engine power and torque to a level that releases the true potential of the 3.2 liter 24 valve and puts the 4wd system to good use. Two levels of turbo power upgrades have been created called RSS32 and RSR32.
VF's marketing team describes the Turbo as a power enhancement that starts off from where VFs more conservative supercharger systems stop. The fully engineered systems are to be tuned to deliver true performance and reliability from the use of Garrett Turbo technology and GIAC engine management calibration, and VF's proprietary cast dual banked exhaust manifold. This system appeals to the VAG enthusiast who understands the principals behind modifying their car to a higher level but is looking for consistency and quality.
To compliment our power upgrades we also offer premium accessories that we have tested and used on our in house demo vehicles. These include: GIAC high octane software upgrades, upgraded camshaft tunes, clutch/flywheel packages and engine mounts. |

With more than 12 years experience in the forced induction industry, it was a natural progression for VF-Engineering to branch out into turbocharger system development. With the naturally aspirated R32 being a prime candidate for an FI upgrade, VF's relationship with GIAC USA, along with its use of state of the art technology, coordinate measuring machine (CMM) and Superflow air flow bench testing technologies set a firm foundation for that the ground work VF has committed for the R32 turbo system.

Through exhaustive testing, VF found that the combination of the GT35R turbo, larger injectors and fuel pump means there's not much room to make big horsepower gains through chip tuning alone. By combining Garrett Turbos GT-T3 series turbo with VF-Engineering hardware and GIAC software, VF now has been developing two unique and fully-engineered Big Turbo Kits to offer VW R32 owners.
The RSS-32 kit is built around the Garrett GT35 turbo and proprietary GIAC software. VF's own cast manifold, larger EV14 Bosch fuel injectors and GIAC software provide an affordable and streetable upgrade for R32 owners. The more aggressive RSR-32 kit uses the same components as the RSS-32 kit, but utilizes greater boost and an air/water aftercooler to take power levels to supercar territory.
The Garrett Turbos GT35R is ideally suited to the 3.2 engine and features improved aerodynamics and a water-cooled ball bearing cartridge. This combination provides a dramatic turbo spool and a corresponding increase in operating efficiency. The 3.2 liter 24V technology exhibits a high volumetric efficiency and with the lowered compression ratio, engine power is efficiently enhanced with forced induction. When it comes to modern turbocharger technology, the Garrett GT-series cannot be beaten. In short, through exhaustive testing and turbo impeller speed sensor measurements, VF believes there is no better-matched turbo for the R32 than Garrett Turbo's GT35R.
VF-Engineerings design and development since 2006 on the VAG 2.0T FSI turbo upgrade kit has set the pattern for VF's development phases in manifold design and turbo ancillary development as shown in existing product..
As is typical for a VF-Engineering kit, fit and finish are OE-quality and the same can be said for drivability. In simple terms, the VF-Engineering RSS-32 Turbo System is fully complete and comes with everything needed for a high quality installation. VF provides a cast alloy manifold that fits like stock and seamlessly mates the GT35 with OEM studs and copper lock nuts to the R32 cylinder head. The stock exhaust manifold heat shield is retained for optimal inusulation of engine bay ancillaries. The turbocharger unit is plumbed with stainless oil and water feed and return hard-lines manufactured by VF-Engineering to suit OEM fitment specifications. All new gaskets, crush washers and single use parts are provided. A VF-custom custom downpipe is used to connect the turbocharger to the to the exhaust system. For stage 2, VF chose to increase fuel pressure with an in-line pump system and OEM spec'd high flow rate, direct drop in Bosch fuel injectors capabale of supporting far greater power levels.
Every aspect of this kit has
been fully engineered for high quality fitment and highly demanding
performance and expectation. VF's in-house horizontal, turning
and milling CNC's and plastic molding plant, GIAC's industry
reputation and track record, and Garrett's reliability have
been fully exploited to create a product with internationally
un-rivaled material technology, quality, and performance.

- Heat sinked Lambda sensor ports.
- Internally divided manifold cavity for dual bank OEM emissions regulation.
- Water, oil return and wastegate signal lines are stainless steel hardlined to minimize potential thermal problems and for high durability.
- Turbo location is tucked down as far away as possible from heat sensitive areas.
- Location of turbo and exhaust manifold design allow the use of the original double walled stainless heat shield.
- All emissions control equipment is intact and functional including readiness checking.
- MAF sensor uses a premium grade stainless steel honeycomb flow straightener.
- Integrated velocity stack design air filter to minimize turbulence in the MAF.
- MAF diameter increased to specific size based on signal range. Going too large on this can lead to many driveabilty problems.
- Generous 3.5 inlet plumbing and 2.5 compressor discharge to limit pumping losses.
- Full Garrett GT35 turbo cartridge, hot and cold sieds were selected to for efficiency and supply for a broad powerband. Overall powerband is broad and not just a peak number.
- Greddy type R valve with huge 47mm valve. This helps keep the shaft speed up during during shifts and having it set up to recirculate keeps the engine management system in check.
- Factory heat shield above CV joint is retained to protect boot from heat radiation.
- GIAC multi-mode programming with factory safe-guards and error reporting in place. Multi modes available.
- Tial 44mm wastegate with VF designed heat shield. 44 mm chosed to minimize the potential problem of boost creep.
- Oil return hose is two part. Upper part is a stainless steel hardline to prevent heat related damage due to close proxity to down-pipe and turbine housing. Second part is Teflon lined with a stainless steel cover. All are attached with AN fittings to make removal and assembly in the area easy.
- Keeps OEM design of two catalytic converters in parallel. This can allow much more flow area than a single converter of the same style for less back pressure.
- Injectors have a factory dual split and angled spray pattern and are the latest EV14 generation.
- All fasteners are OEM grade.
- Downpipe is two piece stainless steel. V-Band break point allows easier access for services like clutch or transmission work.
- Support Bracket is a two piece stainless steel design for the same reasons as the down-pipe.

The RSR-32 kit is built around the RSS-32 kit combined with new GIAC software a self contained air/water aftercooling system. The RSR-32 kit takes the R32 motor to power levels beyond the expectation of most enthusiasts. Upgraded brakes and suspension system are recommended depending upon the type of use the RSS/RSR kits are subjected to.
-
The RSR-32 kit contains all the components required for installation: gaskets, seals, stretch bolts etc.
Power results may vary from car to car and dyno model used. Use of different catalytic convertors, and cataltyic convertors in varying states of wear and exhaust diameters variations can change the turbo "spool" (boost ramp), peak boost and produce varying power/torque measurement results. The stock clutch has can be used with stage 1 subject to driving style, however is an upgraded clutch is required with stage 2. All software calibration is performed with 91 octane, the use of lower octanes can cause engine damage. This product is not CARB approved and can cause bodily injury or death if mis-used or driven irresponsibly.

Performance, reliability, and an OE feel are major factors in the extensive R&D carried out by VF-Engineering. The custom and proprietary GIAC software supplied with this kit safely realigns all fueling and engine management parameters. Unlike other forced induction solutions, VF-Engineering's kit is designed to work safely within VAG's OEM parameters, thus minimizing the likelihood of spurious diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's) or check engine lights (CEL's). GIAC software is installed quickly and easily via their new CAN-compatible flashing tool.
"CAN Switching" is the latest technology released from the GIAC labs, giving the user an ability to safely switch between ECU program modes. "Race" mode enables the user to take advantage of more aggressive programming afforded by higher-octane fuels, "Kill" mode immobilizes the vehicle for anti-theft purposes, and "Valet" mode softens throttle response for those times when the user would rather not fully enable his or her vehicle's available performance.
