10 Hours fitting time, fully reversible.
VF-Engineering is the first to
develop and build a supercharger kit with true OEM quality and
drivability for the Volkswagen MK4 chassis. It is also the first
truly do-it-yourself and reversible conversion kit, using the famous "bullet proof" Vortech
Engineering supercharger unit. The key to the design of this supercharger
kit is the simplicity with which it can be bolted on. The kit is supplied
with every part needed to get your car up and running supercharged
on the same day.
The MK4 VR6 24v was made for the US and Canadian
markets from 2002>04 combining the VR6 heritage but packed with a 4 valves per cylinder newly designed head. The 24V head was designed by Cosworth Engineering and opened up the VR6's lungs. The equivalent model was released in the rest of the world earlier in 1999. Packaged with the 4 motion driveline and titled "V6 4Motion", the non-US models were otherwise identical. The MK4 24V inhereted all the features from the MK4 12V for example the "egas" also known as "drive by wire" and
the plastic variable runner intake manifold. This combination is
an evolution of the VR6 engine first released in 1991 in Europe.
With its narrow angle V-block and single cylinder head, the VR6
is a powerful and reliable engine design. In stock form, the VR6
is quick off the mark thanks to the variable intake, but loses
acceleration at high rpms, making it an ideal candidate for centrifugal
supercharging. The VF stage 1 supercharger conversion adds 80hp,
and the stage 2 adds 105hp using an air to air high-flow front
mount intercooler.

VF-Engineering worked with GIAC engineers
to re-tune the ECU which makes this product a comprehensive tuned
package raising the VR6 hp rating by almost 50% at the wheels!
All testing and development was performed with Californian 91 octane
gasoline and dyno numbers reflect this. GIAC engineers extensively
re-wrote the ECU software using their own binary, assembly and
disassembly algorithms written from scratch. Testing the software
included extensive road and dyno test cycles, with acceleration
and deceleration tests for driveability smoothness and ECU fuel
management. All test cars were put through long term full throttle
testing in conditions varying from wet cold climates to hot dry
Arizona desert temperature for safe-optimal air fuel ratios and
knock activity monitoring. Competently-written ECU software
has allowed VF to fully explore the potential of the VR6 engine.
In tests using higher octane pump gasoline, power output increased
by an additional 5% and even higher with high octane race fuels.
Performance, reliability, and stock feel are
major factors in the extensive R&D carried by VF-Engineering in
Europe and the USA. The custom proprietary VF.GIAC software supplied
with this kit safely re-aligns all fueling and engine management
parameters. Unlike other forced induction solutions, VF-Engineering's
kit is designed to work safely within Volkswagen's OEM parameters
thus minimizing the likelihood of spurious DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble
Codes) or Check-Engine Lights.
Every aspect of this
kit has been fully engineered for high quality fitment and
highly demanding performance and expectation. VF's in-house horizontal, turning
and milling CNC's and plastic molding plant, GIAC's industry
reputation and track record, and Vortech's reliability have
been fully exploited to create a product with internationally
un-rivaled material technology, quality, and performance.
Not all chassis dynos produce
comparable results which is why it is important to consider the "delta", or
relative power increase measured on the same dyno before and
after modification. Power gains shown by VF have been found to
be accurate on test vehicles on 91 octane, with stock setups
(i.e. throttle body, exhaust system, cams, etc.). The GIAC software
adapts just as the OEM software and a slight increase in performance
may be expected from the use of higher quality fuels such as
93 octane.
| Stage
1 is set up to create 6psi manifold pressure at peak
boost. This simple to fit kit is a fully tuned system ready
to bolt-on and drive. As a fully reversible conversion
this modication is simple to maintain and understand for
most DIY enthusiasts. Takes approx. 10 hours to fit. |
Stage
2 is an upgrade package designed to add onto stage
1. A complete combined stage 1&2 can be ordered if desired
also. Stage 2 includes a boost increase kit and larger
set of custom fuel injectors, high flow fuel pump, large
MAF housing, idler with bracket for increased belt wrap,
3" thick high flow front mount intercooler and upgraded
ECU software. This is also a reversible and simple to fit
conversion taking approx. 7 hours to fit. |
